And while we’re at it, here’s some portraits, too. Same person, all three of them. The first one (notice the animu eyes XD) is 2009, the last one is 2011. I’ve probably painted about 50 or so portrait studies in between. Not nearly as much as I should have done in all that time, but I just wanted to give you a palpable idea as to how much work it took me to get from point A to point B. The learning curve is a breeze, compared to figure drawing!
The left one is probably about 6 months (a year maybe?) after I started studying anatomy. It took a long while for me to start getting a feel for the human body. I remember struggling, sometimes for hours, to get my poses to look natural, especially when drawing without a reference. I actually thought I did a fairly good job here. Now, I look at it and go “wtf was I thinking?”
Whether I’ll get to look back on the right one and laugh in three years time remains to be seen.
